Constantly looking for new plants for the development of assets for the cosmetics industry, BASF BEAUTY CARE SOLUTIONS began the study of the argan tree in 1998. Local development, integration of women and their know-how , and preservation of the Arganeraie guided this project in partnership with a professor of Mohamed V University, Rabat. The objectives were to identify specific parts of the argan tree that could not be used for the manufacture of cosmetic ingredients, to diversify the income of cooperatives and to promote the preservation of the argan tree by the local populations. The research project initiated in 2000 allowed the cosmetic valorization of co-products of the argan tree (cake, pulp and leaf) and the marketing of oil through a partnership initiated in 2004 with a group of 6 founding cooperatives in the region of Agadir. The oil is manufactured in cooperatives with the intention of allowing rural women to have a remunerative activity while sharing the ownership and the process of cooperative decisions and limiting the exodus of populations to the cities. Argan oil and its derivatives are supplied to BASF upon fair trade terms. The partnership established with these cooperatives is part of a long-term approach that is more than 10 years old, making it possible to favor an economic model that is significantly favorable to local populations, generating significant societal benefits, and management of the production and quality by local actors.
Constamment à la recherche de nouvelles plantes pour le développement d’actifs pour l’industrie de la cosmétique, BASF BEAUTY CARE SOLUTIONS a commencé l’étude de l’arganier en 1998. Développement local, intégration de la femme et de son savoir-faire, et préservation de l’Arganeraie ont guidé ce projet en partenariat avec un professeur de l’Université Mohamed V, Rabat. Les objectifs étaient d’identifier des parties spécifiques de l’arganier non valorisées pouvant être utilisées pour la fabrication d’ingrédients cosmétiques, diversifier les revenus des coopératives et favoriser la préservation de l'arganier par les populations locales.
Le projet de recherche initié en 2000 a permis la valorisation cosmétique des co-produits de l'arganier et la commercialisation de l’huile à travers un partenariat initié en 2004 avec un groupement de 6 coopératives fondatrices dans la région d’Agadir.
L’huile est fabriquée dans les coopératives avec l’intention de permettre aux femmes en milieu rural d’avoir une activité rémunératrice tout en partageant la propriété et le processus de décisions de coopérative et limiter l’exode des populations vers les villes. L'huile d'argan et ses produits dérivés sont fournis à BASF à des conditions commerciales équitables.
Le partenariat établi avec ces coopératives s’inscrit dans une démarche pérenne forte de plus de 10 ans, permettant de privilégier un modèle économique significativement favorable aux populations locales, engendrant des bénéfices sociétaux notables, et une maitrise de la production et de la qualité par les acteurs locaux. |
