Impact, actions & engagements remarquablesThe Company TAHUAMANU S.A. formed in 1996, located in the city of Cobija of the Department of Pando in the Amazon region of Bolivia, performs activities of collection, benefit and marketing of Chestnut (Brazil Nut).

Chestnuts represent more than 75% of the economic movement in the region. The importance of Chestnuts lie not only in its contribution to the economy but also because of its ecological component in the preservation of the Amazon rainforest, since its exploitation makes it possible to curb forest predation.

As a result of the disappearance of the rubber activity in the country, Bolivia began to develop its chestnut activity and consequently is gradually retaking control of the world market from the year 1996 through improvements in technology competing with prices and quality, which has allowed the country to become the first producer and exporter of Chestnuts in the world.

For more than 10 years TAHUAMANU S.A was the only industry in the city of Cobija generating direct and indirect employment in the population.

It currently generates 350 direct jobs in the plant and indirectly, chestnut harvesting has a commercial relationship with more than 40 communities representing around 2000 families, who benefit directly or indirectly.

TAHUAMANU S.A. carries out the marketing of certified products, which is based on dialogue, transparency and respect, which seeks greater equity in trade with both our suppliers of raw materials and labor personnel linked to the production process; as with our final customers of the finished product, with the aim of achieving changes in the rules and practices of conventional marketing, which contributes to a comprehensive development respecting the uses and customs of the Communities, the Environment and the current Legal System.

The process of harvesting and producing chestnuts makes it possible to improve the living conditions of the collecting families, which allows them to elaborate future plans, thus contributing to reduce the poverty gap by selling a certified product.
