ALITECH INDUSTRIES is a Beninese company located in the municipality of Abomey-Calavi in the Atlantic department. It was born twenty years ago from the desire to develop technologies used for the processing of local agricultural products. It cooperates with a group of 25 producers who devote themselves to organic fair trade raw materials within a contractual framework which ensures them a regular income. Its processing workshop, which now employs 52 people (22 permanent and 30 temporary), is a place of exchange between women with traditional know-how and young food technologists, university graduates. Jobs are thus built and have a positive impact on the local economy. The processing plant has a processing capacity of 1000 tonnes of raw materials by producing 150 tonnes of finished products: cassava semolina (Gari), unfermented cassava flour, cassava couscous (Attièkè), Tapioca , sweet potato flour and plantain flour.

Thanks to this potential, it entered the ethnic products market in Europe through a partner company that operates in the community markets of the African diaspora. The cooperation resulting from this commercial dynamic allows the company to receive financial and technical support, essential support for the organic and fair trade certification of its products derived from cassava, sweet potatoes, plantains, etc. the most important sector of the Beninese economy. It provides about 70% of the jobs. Most of them are small and medium family-type farms (<5ha), representing 95% of agricultural production. The Atlantic department, belonging to the municipality of Abomey-Calavi where it operates, has these same characteristics. As at the national level, cassava represents the most important production in the department, ie 579,972 tons. The municipality of Abomey-Calavi is representative of the poverty situation at the national level and is the subject of special attention by the government as part of the government action program.
