Biolandes Madagascar is an integrated company of the Biolandes group whose head office is in France. This Malagasy subsidiary, created in 1995 and based in the North-West of the Big Island, has for main activity the production of essential oils from natural materials, including vetiver roots.
It is around this raw material that a project was set up in 2008 for the vetiver sector, 100% Fair Trade, ESR certified at first and now FFL. The major players in this project are: the Manitra association, made up of vetiver producers based in Tsiromandidy and Biolandes Madagascar, whose role is to buy and distill the roots.
The primary goal of the project is to provide technical support and financial assistance to isolated communities of producers and represented by the association.
In this sense, Biolandes Madagascar regularly distributes strains of vetiver on the ground and transmits a technical and cultural knowledge to the producers. What's more, several projects have emerged thanks to the use of a development fund. Among these projects can be mentioned the construction of a bridge linking up two villages, the setting up of pre-financements to finance medical care or the repair of a school.
All these projects come from needs expressed by the communities and are voted at general meetings. Biolandes Madagascar maintains a constant dialogue with these communities in order to best contribute to the development of these communities.
