Certification for fair trade and responsible supply chains
Impact, special achievements & commitmentsBefore Açaí do Amapa Agro-Industrial Ltda., Fair Trade guidelines for Açaí did not exist. Working hand-in-hand to develop these rigorous standards, Sambazon remains the first Açaí Company to be both certified Fair Trade and Organic.

With hand-harvested Açaí, Açaí do Amapa Agro-Industrial Ltda. guarantees it takes care of people and planet first. Every single seed they purchase and process has full transparency and traceability. To date, Açaí do Amapa Agro-Industrial Ltda. has protected over 2.2 million acres of Amazon Rainforest, working with the local men and women farmers to harvest Açaí in a truly sustainable and regenerative manner.

Founded on a triple bottom line philosophy, Açaí do Amapa Agro-Industrial Ltda. currently exports Açai to North America, Europe, Australia, Brazil, Japan, the UK, Korea, Costa Rica, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Indonesia. As a vertically integrated company, Açaí do Amapa Agro-Industrial Ltda. takes pride in minimizing their environmental impact wherever possible. One of the most innovative and powerful things they’ve done is to convert the furnaces of their alternative-energy fueled factories to burn the seeds of the Açaí fruit, their largest source of waste in production, instead of virgin Amazon wood. Açaí do Amapa Agro-Industrial Ltda. also only uses water directly from the Amazon to clean their fruit, filtering it multiple times before using and also before returning it to the river. The waste removed from the water is used as a fertilizer for growing seedlings onsite at their factories before they’re donated to local farmers.

Our Fair trade premium is given directly to the communities as they support the fair trade belief that the communities should tell us what they need, not the other way around, Açaí do Amapa Agro-Industrial Ltda. works closely with the people and local NGO’s to provide food, shelter and medical care. To date, our funds have built or refurbished seven schools, a hospital, and multiple community centers, provided water filters, and improved the health conditions of over 2,800 students, 1,300 children, and 2,000 families.

Knowing that true sustainability is about investing in the future, Açaí do Amapa Agro-Industrial Ltda. is dedicated to the continued education and innovation of their farmers and their practices. By funding local education programs that also give farmers Açai palms to plant, Açaí do Amapa Agro-Industrial Ltda. provides them with not only the means but the knowledge it takes to practice sustainable agriculture.
