 | Impact, special achievements & commitments | | | Olivado EPZ Limited started its operations in Kenya in 2007. Since the beginning in 2008, Olivado has shown great efforts to act as a socially responsible and fair company. Olivado is involved in contract production of smallholder farmers. Olivado supports these producers with training on organic and fair trade issues. In order to satisfy the expectation of farmers, Olivado in 2016 established a sister company, Olivado Fresh EPZ Limited which deals with packing and export of fresh avocados. Olivado work force comprises of 30 permanent workers and over 500 seasonal workers. Majorly the company deals with Fresh Avocados and Avocado oil processing. The role of women in the society is actively encouraged by Olivado. Since Olivado contracts such a large number of farmers whose farms are scattered across a very large region, establishment of community projects isn't realistic. Farmers are therefore directly paid the Fair Trade Development Fund as additional income. Training is offered by the company to the farmers on how to invest the sales proceeds. Many farmers have bought livestock or built houses with the Fair Trade Development Fund money they receive. Olivado's main objective is to be able to make a big difference in the lives of their contracted smallholders, by increasing both their productivity and the quality of production. The company is currently buying fresh fruits for export and thus offer the farmers more benefits in terms of better prices.
The programme is spread out in twelve counties of Kenya.
