Impact, special achievements & commitmentsSC Global Coco Products, Inc. envisions to be able to provide long term assistance to farmers in a manner that the farmers require or may need. The farmers come from Barangay Higuloan, Imelda, Kambonggan, Mailhi, Mpnteverde, where farmlands are essentially planted with coconut. Most of the farmers tend their own farmlands and hire farm labor during harvest and copra preparation. Clearing and cleaning of farmlands are simulataneously done during the harvest activity. The economy in Baybay is largely based on agriculture and coconut is one of the widely planted crop in the area, approximately 16,000 hectares more or less. Coconut farmes rely mainly on the production of their farms for their needs including the education of their children and their health needs.
The trading system continues to be feudal where the farmers borrow money from the trader in advance before the harvest to pay for the farm labor, food and transport needs. In return, they are tied to sell their farm produce to said traders at a largely oppressive discounted price ranging from 25 – 35 % less, depending on the accessibility of the farms location. Earning much less from what they should benefit from, SC Global initiated the organic farming program in said areas to arrest the sorry plight of the farmers.
