RUGOFARM is leading a project in Burundi for the development of an essential oil production supply-chain.
It is carried out in partnership with producers in Cibitoke province, in the north-west of the country, for the cultivation of patchouli, and the company ASTIER DEMAREST, for technical assistance and marketing.
The ESSENTIAL OILS IN BURUNDI project is part of a desire to diversify Burundi's export income with high value-added products, thereby improving the standard of living of local populations and reducing poverty in rural areas.
The RUGOFARM agro-industrial complex, established in Rugombo since 1991, is today made up of a team of 68 people, spread over crops, distillation and administration.
With an annual export prospect of 10 tonnes of patchouli essential oil, the project plans to supervise 3,000 producers by 2023 and formalize this partnership approach by examining Fair Trade certification.

Il est mené en partenariat avec les producteurs de la province de Cibitoke, au nord-ouest du pays, pour la culture du patchouli, et la société ASTIER DEMAREST, pour l’assistance technique et la commercialisation.
Le projet HUILES ESSENTIELLES AU BURUNDI s’inscrit dans une volonté de diversifier les revenus d’exportation du Burundi avec des produits à haute valeur ajoutée, d’améliorer ainsi le niveau de vie des populations locales et réduire la pauvreté en milieu rural.
Le complexe agro-industriel RUGOFARM, établi à Rugombo depuis 1991, est formé aujourd’hui d’une équipe de 68 personnes, répartie sur les cultures, la distillation et l’administration.
Avec des perspectives d’exportation annuelle de 10 tonnes d’huile essentielle de patchouli, le projet prévoit l’encadrement de 3 000 producteurs d’ici 2023 et la formalisation de cette démarche de partenariat par l’instruction d’une certification Commerce Equitable. |
