Impact, special achievements & commitments | Public Summary Statement On The Administration on the Fair Trade Premium Fund Of Terra PLc Terra Plc. was founded in 1992 as an Ethiopian private limited company by close family members and friends of Ethiopian origin. All the shareholders have a common vision of contributing their share in advancing rural development through environmentally sustainable and socially responsible integrated farming. The company produces rose oil since 2012 from rosa damascene plants which it cultivates on its landholdings in Debre Birhan and Angolela of North Shoa Administration Zone of the Amhara region. The company offers employment opportunities for an average of 56 people on a permanent basis and is certified in organic and biodynamic agriculture as well as Fair for Life as of 2013 and 2015, respectively. In line with the certification guidelines, the Fair Trade Fund was established in late 2016 in consultation with the workers of Terra to utilize payments of the Fair Trade Fund for strengthening the Workers’ Credit and Saving Association (CSA). The CSA of the workers is entirely owned and administered by the workers. It generates its income from monthly contributions by each member and gives credits to its members on concessionary interest rates of only 5%. Workers take credits to overcome temporary financial shortages and/or to finance larger amounts needed to improve livelihoods. | |||||||
